Our Philosophy

Why BERRY ON THE DRUMS? Simply because we love T-shirts, but have never been able to find our every day favourite jersey label that fulfils all our high standards and needs.

So, two true enthusiasts, father and son, founded their own label: BERRY ON THE DRUMS, a new brand dedicated to their father’s/grandfather’s brother. A famous and one of the most stylish jazz drummers in the 1930s, who paved his way with high standards throughout the 1950s; never accepting compromises and establishing himself on the highest level of the music scene.

Lucky to have inherited that same eminent standard as Berry, our shirts are unique, timeless and handcrafted. They are classic cotton jerseys with a modern twist, providing a fresh beat and a perfect fit while matching everyone’s casual lifestyle.

Our Product

We care about all the details: from the selection of yarns and threads to the manner of knitting and sewing techniques, dying processes, and not to mention our mother of pearl buttons. We’ve developed and tested our special pure combed and ring spun yarns individually – simply to get the best fundamentals. In our sewing atelier we carefully produce limited batches of shirts, from basic Tees to Henleys and Polos. Our finished garments are prewashed and carefully dyed.
Thanks to these methods and complex processes we are able to guarantee no shrinkage after washing. Truly and simply unique.

Our Quality

Real craftsmanship is decidedly important for BERRY ON THE DRUMS. All jersey fabrics are knitted on old traditional circular machines from the 1960s. Therefore we are able to produce unique jerseys without side seems and can guarantee no twisting as well as no shrinking; even after washing them a hundred times. We’ve selected all production facilities ourselves based on our philosophy with constant and precise control of every production step.
Also worth mentioning: thanks to our special handpicked soft organic cotton yarns of highest quality we are able to handcraft and design all our shirts in our own special – super relaxed fit – cut.

Our Cotton

95% of today’s worldwide cotton production contains genetically modified organism (GMO) and is mainly industrially produced in low price factories around the world. BERRY ON THE DRUMS addresses people looking for authentic classic styles while caring about fair production methods – so our fabrication is totally different from today’s industrialized mass productions.

In the discovery process of looking for different production opportunities where fundamental working rights and fair salaries are respected and guaranteed, we’ve been lucky to have discovered bioRe (biore.ch), a project in Tanzania where we can purchase the best organic cotton by avoiding toxic chemical usage – while providing better living conditions for the local farming families; contributing to a more comfortable future for our workers – and buyers.

Our Production

BERRY ON THE DRUMS shirts are 100% made in Switzerland – from the knitting of the jersey fabrics to the sewing of the shirts, all within an eco-friendly radius of only 35 miles a/k/a 50 kilometres. Our jerseys are knitted by A. Nägeli in Ermatingen, processed and finished at E. Schellenberg in Fehraltdorf, sewed at Lu Couture in Willisau and washed and dyed at Kronbühl in Wittenbach.
